Interesting points...I think one of the goals of the failed Japanese
martian orbiter mission last year was to collect data on the present rate of loss of certain martian atmospheric gases over a measured period of time. Too bad...Hopefully a future orbiter [American, Japanese or European] will finally fill in the blanks.
