The entire "draft" flap was a specific political tactic engineered, proposed in Congress, and spread through the media by the Democratic Party as an attack on the Republicans.
Not a single Republican, not a single person in the Bush administration, not a single person in authority at the Pentagon supported a draft, and when endlessly asked by the media about it, kept repeating that fact, almost to the point of obscenity in a few cases.
When the Democratically-authored draft bill came up for a vote in the House, everybody but two representatives voted against it, including most of the actual cosponsors of the bill.
Not only was this "draft" scare a completely artificial issue, it was so transparently artificial that anyone who bought it shouldn't be allowed to roam around without a keeper.
By the way, I have two teenage kids.
