"Jobs was an issue. The environment was an issue. The deficit was an issue. Tactical decisions in the war was an issue. Going to war was an issue."

From what I saw from north of 49, Kerry paid a fair bit of attention to these issues, including in the parts of the debates that I watched. It seemed to me that they weren't issues that voters cared very much about.
