We went through that hatch business here before, and pretty much flattened it.
According to Fred Leslie, the Shuttle hatch ejection system for emergency exit consists of three sets of pyrotechnics activated by a T-handle near seat 5:
1) a total of 4 linear shaped charges (two per hinge for redundancy) which sever the hinges
2) two (redundant) expanding tube assemblies which sever the 70 frangible bolts holding the hatch adapter ring to the Orbiter
3) three (partially redundant) thruster packs which push the severed hatch away from the Orbiter at a velocity of approximately 45 ft/sec.
The idea that you need an "indicator" to show that this has occurred, even in wreckage, is like needing an "indicator" to tell you that you've cut an eight-foot hole in the wall with a chainsaw.
The overhead window can also be blown out by pyrotechnics.
Your motivation for bringing this up before was transparent. Let it go.
