We are looking at a serious threat to civil liberties at home. I'm sure you'll deny that. Those who are the last to lose them usually deny the ebb.

We are involved in a full-scale war that's still going on, and we are making more enemies there every day, because we have just enough people there to make sure that the conflict continues, but that nothing is resolved.

We have pissed off our traditional allies (yeah, I know: you don't care), and our new allies are gradually, with little fanfare, withdrawing their material support. We aren't the sheriff anymore; we are the lone cowboy ridin' the range with our six-shooter and our rifle.

We have record-breaking deficits. How much of our economy is based on foreign investment? How long is it going to take until foreign investors are wary of leaving their money here? How long until the dollar crashes and burns on the currency market?

Clinton was elected and you were against him. I'm sorry. His sexual misadventures embarassed us all. But our domestic health was good, and we were respected abroad.

Kerry is no rose, but at least the prospect of his election gave those of us who are not only opposed to, but frightened by the Bush agenda a little breathing room. Now we have the prospect of Mr. Bush's supporters setting the national course for 20 years. If we all live that long.
