Semi-related topic: Japanese animated Christmas recommendation...
Recommendation to watch it at Christmas-time, that is (I'm trying to avoid Wonderful Life for a few years, myself.).
Tokyo Godfathers is (and I know Tom must already have seen it) Christmasy, and heart-warming, and shockingly funny and wierd at times. No fantasy involved in the story; no magic or super-powers. But it is so wierdly Japanese at times that it blows my mind.
The CD has an interview with one of the Japanese voice actors (sub-titled) where she admits to symptoms of severe depression and loneliness and then giggles about it. The interviewer doesn't blink an eye. I will never get those folks, completely.
