Skeptical
I think we all hope that Arafat's demise creates a new paradigm that leads towards peace. However, I have little confidence that the Palestinians have any idea of how to take advantage of this rare opportunity. We can expect the militants to attempt to derail any effort that appears to lead towards an agreement with Israel. And, yes, we can expect moderate Palestinian leaders to be at risk. There's a reason why Arafat never exhibited the courage that a true compromise requires.
