There is a lot of hard ball in academic politics. Dr. Condoleezza Rice was Stanford University's Provost before she hired on with President Bush. People underestimated Woodrow Wilson when he ran for President because they thought him a mere academic with no prior political experience. However Wilson's experience as President of Princeton University made him quite adept at political hardball. After Princeton, Washington politics was almost easy (until the end of World War One).
I think Dr. Rice would probably make a good President.
