scramjet-powered X-43A reached Mach 10 during this week's
unmanned test flight, breaking its own record of Mach 7 set in
March.

What distinguishes the X-43A from other rocket-powered aircraft
is the scramjet, which inhales oxygen from the atmosphere
instead of from onboard oxygen canisters.
