It was Cheney who defined the Republican stance on the deficit, that it didn't matter.

However, a good, quick test as to Republican sincerity is the military budget. When they are willing to put that on the table I will believe they may be willing to do something about wasteful, optional spending which yields no dividends.

And they aren't. While the US is marauding through Muslim countries, creating enemies faster than Muslims are being born, losing wars, flying 200 million dollar airplanes the Republicans want to cut social programs.

There is something wrong there.

I believe welfare should be overhauled, and able-bodied people be required to perform some sort of public service besides cranking out babies. It is bloated, too, but the entire burden of lowering the deficit should not be placed on the backs of the poor. There's something morally wrong about that.
