The personal savings rate is quite understandable considering the fact that interest rates have been cut to the bone for at least 7-8 years. Savings accounts are not much better than money buried in your back yard.
I would question whether the stat on personal savings includes IRA and 401K numbers. Maybe it does and maybe not.
As far as trade deficits are concerned, it seems that they have been upside down most of my life. The consequences of this are as complex as never ending argument on global warming.
