re: M31....a spot
It's the spot on the lower part of the image (the galaxy's center).
In order for the galaxy to appear as a spiral object, the exposure must be much longer and the camera must move with the sky.
The upper star is Mirach, below it, Mu Andromedae and next to M31 (to the right), Nu Andromedae.
