re: If I were setting up a private space launch company

I would do so in some 3rd world location where rules concerning liability were nearly non-existant. Fanning Island, (part of Kirbati) south of Hawaii would be nice! You could propably buy the entire Island for a couple of hundred thousand dollars...Its on the equator so its a perfect location! Of course once the launch facilities were under construction, land prices would go through the roof and tourism would skyrocket.

And once your got your business set-up and ready to go, then you would make the passengers sign away all potential claims under the local laws...

US law offers too many protections to the consumers in the form of unlimited liability. One accident, and you would be bankrupt, so unfortunatly, the US is not going to be a Mecca for any private space launch initiatives.

P.S. If you ever get a chance to visit Fanning Island, Don't Pass up the opportunity
