I think it was hasty to dismiss it as absolutely a coincidence

I was thinking of a loose clumping of rocks on the same trajectory, but the idea of the smaller ones orbiting around the larger asteroid is intriguing. Seen coming at us, the satellites would be corkscrewing around and could enter our atmosphere from any angle. The different trajectories--asteroid SW to NE, meteors due W--don't necessarily mean they weren't part of the same system. The coincidence in timing is more significant than trajectory, perhaps.
