Seriously though: I wonder how the French justified the expense? It is a beautiful bridge and I'm glad they made it. Also, I can see the merit in building a large suspension bridge to cross a body of water, e.g. the Golden Gate Bridge. However, wouldn't it have been cheaper to simply build a road down the valley's wall, cross the valley floor and then up the opposite valley wall? I guess it would have uglified that beautiful valley but the expense of that bridge...... I'm glad I'm not paying for it.
