Most Amusing Media Flop of the Week
When Bernie Kerik was nominated to head Homeland Security, the media assembled an immense dirt arsenal against him, with the intent of launching every scandal torpedo they had, emptying the tubes and sailing home in triumph with the broom on the sail while Kerik and Bush upended and slid beneath the waves.
Lo and behold, Kerik withdraws. The torpedos are dutifully fired anyway from the New York Times and others, although there isn't an enemy ship in sight. After all, if they scrapped the stories after the withdrawal, it would be a dead-on admission that the stories were purely politically motivated.
So lots of stuff on Kerik this week. And nobody gives a rat's ass any more.
