Earthquake issues

I don't doubt that there are pork issues with the Bay Bridge upgrade. However this is an apples and oranges comparison. Any bridge made in the Bay Area must meet almost impossible earthquake safety standards. I believe(?) the Golden Gate Bridge is rated to Richter 8. The beautiful Millau Viaduct is not in an area prone to earthquakes.
