It's a tough spot with light pollution areas. I've learned that apparent magnitude of an object has little meaning where I live. It's movin pretty fast, at about a degree every 24 hours.
Machholz will be right next to Pleiades on 1/7/05 for an easy find and should be brighter along with being at near zenith for some.
