Current Events » in reply to Respected Army historian cites lack of postwar plan

So, what exactly would this great plan have been?

- More troops? From where? Wait three years or so to build up the army, spending billions before the war even starts while Saddam prepares? Would another 100,000 troops be more effective in stopping insurgents concealed among the population? Or just 100,000 more men and women driving over bombs buried in the road?

- Shoot the looters, most of them civilians?

- Keep Saddam's army intact, and hope that by some bizarre miracle, it wasn't stuffed to the gills with Baathists?

Does anyone actually THINK about these things, or is just throwing shit enough?

The source of the essay--filtered first through the Washington Post and then MSNBC--looks like a knowledgable one. Sure as frigging hell you're not going to see his actual paper show up anywhere. You might decide things for yourself, or read things he wrote that the media would rather you didn't hear.

You can see another informative analysis by the same author here. In part, it describes how the 101st Airborne successfully adapted to new conditions.
