I didn't inquire.

They stopped their car to ask me what I thought about the Association meeting the night before (the City wants to build a boon-doggle bike trail through our neighborhood, a cul-de-sac subdivision that is already optimized for bicycles--but that's another story.).

I suppose he could take a day off and drive her all over town to get her business sorted out, but it is an extra inconvenience most people in her position would rather not mess with. Especially if they work, have kids, etc., have disabilities which make it uncomfortable to them to stand in line, find parking, leave home, and so on. Gov offices are not open on weekends or evenings.

That's how voter suppression works. You just can't deny people the right to vote outright, it would get too much bad publicity.

You just make it harder for the people you don't want to vote to vote and you count on them being too shiftless and low-life to care.. They are the ones with two jobs, no days off, lots of kids, no husband or wife to help, reliant on public transportation, and so on. If a group has a tradition of registering to vote Sundays after church, you shut down Sunday Registration. You cut back on voter hours, reduce the number of voting stations, close everything except during working hours, in short, you do everything Skeletor Scott did to give the GOP an edge. At the same time, you make sure all programs designed to turn out the vote or increase registration (the ones that favor Democrats) are curtailed or cut back to save money, or increase security, and so on. They always have a reason when it works for them.

This is the South, we are experts at making it hard for "Those Peeple" to vote. Although its not just blacks any more, now its old timers, students, poor people, younger people, Latinos, working class folks and the rest of all those undesirables who are more likely, statistically, to vote Democratic.

At the same time, those voting methods which favor Republicans or make it more convenient for well-informed, nice, white, middle class types wih time and opportunity (statistically, Republican constituencies) are expanded and extended (vote-by-mail, absentee balloting, etc). Statistics does the rest.

Don't be coy, TB. You know perfectly well this is happening in those states where the GOP is in power and control state legislatures and governorships. Its a national scandal, a disgrace. If you can't see it, well, that goes back to my original point when I initiated this thread. You interpret your observations based on your preconceptions of how your universe works.
