Would you like me to show you citations demonstrating:
There IS an occupying military power.
That NOT everyone can run for or hold office.
Or do you really know that and choose to ignore it?
Now, the real rulers of any country are the folks who control the military.
For example, post-WWII Hungary, Czechoslavakia, Rumania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania. All of 'em had "elected" governments, which were puppets of the occupying military power.
Now, Bush is up against what Saddam was - how to hold the country together. And it can't be done without force.
Any real election would have what the US had for years and years - A majority ruling which disregarded an underclass.
And the people would choose a theocracy. They trust their religious leaders, and not the politicians. After all, the US has sponsored Chalabi, and now Allawi, both shills of the first water, de facto CIA employees. (How many votes do you think an Iraqi could get running as a CIA shill if realistically someone could run against him. As many as a Janos Kadar could get.)
Silly man.

You're serious? There isn't an occupying military power. And anyone who wants to run can run.
