If the reporting is correct, no. Only the Pacific basin has a tsunami reporting system.
While spectacular, they are still rare events.
It has been the growth of populaiton into coastal regions, and the development of good worldwide communications that brings them to our attention.
That being said, it will be better for us all to have a decent global system than not.
