I can speak from experience that the kind of alloys that a nickel-iron meteorite is made of are nearly indestructible.
I wish I could locate that website I found a long time ago showing rocks like this (not meteorites, though) sitting on top of the sand in the middle of a desert where the surrounding environment had worn away.
