Your British spelling implies that you are not located in the United States. I've done the imported used Japanese part trick in California and in Queensland, Australia. It probably also works in New Zealand for imported parts. I know that complete used cars from Japan are imported into New Zealand. I don't know if it works in South Africa or the United Kingdom.
To get the used parts, just look in the telephone yellow pages for car or auto wrecker, wrecking yard, used car parts, etc. What you are looking for is "imported used Japanese parts". You want parts that were used on cars in Japan and disassembled in Japan. You don't want parts from locally used cars (they typically have too much mileage on them). You want to look specifically for the transmission compatible with the clutch used in your F8-944045 DOHC engine (the transmission might be used in more than one chassis model). IMPORTANT: If you have an old clutch plate from your engine then take it with you when you are searching for the transmission. Make sure the clutch plate will mate smoothly with the drive shaft on the candidate transmission. I've been burned by this, trying to mate an engine with an incompatible transmission (same bell housing but the clutch plate was incompatible with the drive shaft splines). Toyota is always fiddling with their design and will change something as major as the transmission drive shaft within a model year. Make sure you inspect the transmission oil before you purchase it. If the oil is milky grey then reject the transmission. Also be wary of parts that have obviously been steam cleaned (you don't know what you're really getting). A moderately dirty used part is better than a steam cleaned part fished up from the bottom of a river. If you don't want to install the engine yourself then ask the part supplier for a recommended installer. Often times they will ship the part to the installer. However the workmanship is sometimes poor. The one time I had a guy do it for me, some parts were improperly installed. I paid the guy $300 to install a Toyota Tercel engine. A skilled professional can swap an engine in about 3 hours. It takes me about 2 days to do it. Experience and air tools help alot. Good luck!
