I'll bet they thought the primrose path Chalabi described was real, disregarding about all other information.
Stopped reading the papers when the papers stuck with reality, and just pumped each other up.
Sorta like reading nothing but conservative blogs. Ya start to believe them.
So, here we are, and since no one can admit failure, they just have to keep trying harder that which doesn't work.
