Three technques seem to be particularly effective in smear campaigns. The first is the intentional misquote. The second is the unending demand for justification, accompanied by more misquotes. Third is the gratuitous insult added to 1) and 2).

My first thought was to simply call them god damn fucking assholes, but then I'd be beginning to sound like Cheney, and we can all see where his anger got him: heart attack.

I've got to find a way to deal with these smear techniques which is quick and effective.

Now generally, if I have freedom to speak, I can smother an opponent with facts - but this will not work if the intentional misquote is used.

One way of defending this is to attack. But this takes time, and I can't see wasting useful time on dealing with it.

Another problem, is that I'm simply too busy to deal with it.
