"Army plans to keep 120,000 troops in Iraq through 2006" - kinda shoots the idea of "democracy" in the rear, doesn't it?
More reserves may be tapped; Bush to seek $80B for military
"The U.S. Army expects to keep its troop strength in Iraq at the current level of about 120,000 for at least two more years, according to the Army's top operations officer."
Let's see. An occupying military, unaccountable to Iraqi authorities, conducting operations wherever it chooses, enforcing contracts signed by Bremer and binding on Iraq,
just doesn't make for democracy.
A vote does not automatically create "democracy".
