It goes a lot deeper than opposition to this war, or any war, and long predates Bush. The idea that traditional Western values in many areas of life (in some cases the very concept of "value" itself) are something that need to be mocked and destroyed runs deep in the current popular culture. That this trait is considered to be a sign that one is an "intellectual" is nothing new either.
It has a lot less to do with patriotism that it does with raw nihilism, but let's look at patriotism. Flag-waver is an insult. Why? When some people reacted with literal disgust when the flags came out after 9/11, we were looking at something deeper than Democrat or Republican, or even pro or anti-American. We were looking at an ugly that goes clean to the bone, bred in our popular culture and university campuses.
Ayn Rand nailed it in the phrase "hatred of the good for being the good." From there on, it gets deeper than I want to get here.
As far as Iraq is concerned:
That you continue to insist that the insurgency is a widely-supported popular movement in Iraq shows your complete invulnerability to even the simple facility of observation, much less reason, and puts you in the same category as those space nuts who keep seeing spare auto parts in Mars pictures.
You would gladly see 25 million Iraqis hurled back into slavery if it vindicated your bitter views. I don't think anyone reading all your posts here could draw any other conclusion.
