It is interesting... I wonder what can be learned about the internal structure of saturn from this observation... my guess is quite a lot... especially when coupled with Cassini... Ground based astronomy is making gigantic leaps, and the past year of robotic exploration has been the most amazing ever... This is a great time to be alive
The Saturn data was taken by Keck 1. I have worked solely on the Keck 2 scope- (the two kecks are in the same 'building' at opposite ends. The number of times I have been in the keck 1 dome could be counted on my fingers.)
Right now, all I work on is the Keck 2 laser system. Now that the last critical problem on that system appears to have been solved, in the near future I will be probably be working on a new laser for keck 1...(This is public knowledge). The demand for laser time is _immense_, and right now we are the only large scope that has one...
The laser increases the amount of sky we can look at with adaptive optics by a factor of ~100. The laser guide star technology is quite probably the biggest leap in ground based astronomy since adaptive optics, and adaptive optics was the biggest leap since the telescope.

Nope- I wasnt even remotely involved with that...
