My wife went throught the process of trying to get a children's book published. It was hopeless. Her manuscript always landed in an "in tray" with 500 other unsolicited manuscripts. Eventually they'd return it to her unread with a 4x5 rejection card.
Trying to publish fiction in today's market is an exercise in futility.
