More (and better) information...

The meeting's website is here, in case you have an aversion to getting all your news from hysterical journalists.

You can get a good overall picture from the Steering Committee's report. They get points for actually mentioning nuclear power.

The general conclusion seemed to be that a wide variety of simultaneous approaches was the best way to deal with this. This presentation is a good representation.

Market forces are already heading in some of these directions. As just one small example, they still can't keep enough hybrids on the lots to satisfy demand, and the deal they made to allow hybrids to drive the diamond lanes in California is falling through, as they begin to realize just how many cars that's going to be.

The tax/subsidy concept works in theory, but in practice, at least when similar things have been tried, the money tends to flow toward the areas with the most political pull, not necessarily where it can be the most effective. The experience of California with subsidies for things like wind generators is instructive.

Start developing and building nuclear power plants. Now.
