This worm/virus stuff is amazing/frightening

I'm fully paranoid when it comes to computer security. I never link my Windows-2000 operating system to the DSL gateway due to my fear of viruses and worms. I only use the latest version of Mozilla under Linux with all the security stuff turned on. However about once a month, I'll find a ".exe" file appear mysteriously in /tmp. Some worm tried and failed to infect my system. The infected ".exe" file simply bounced harmlessly off the Linux kernel. It amazes me the viruses get that far. It's like the Dutch Elm Disease virus trying to infect my cat. I'm suprised that any Windows system is still operating under this level of virus attack.
