Nodules at Columbia hills close to "berries"

There are small nodules very reminiscent of the berries of Meridiana in these images. Some are also on pedestals, etc., such as in a badland. I find it interesting that some of these rocks look so similar to parts of Meridiana, but also grade into non layered rock that looks very much like extrusive volcanics. This leads me to speculate that the berries and nodules may be xenoliths from a salt rich magma. At Columbia the magma may have been thicker and/or mostly extruded subaerialy (sp?), while at Meridiana the extrusions were subaqueous and dissolved into widespread thin layers with included berries. The interior of the berries has been very uniform and fine grained as observed so far (rapid cooling?). Awaiting more data!
