Quite a while ago, I asked a very simple question on this board:
- Who do you want to see win in Iraq?
- And if your answer is our side, why aren't you acting like it?
Military bloggers keep asking, if you support the troops, why don't you want us to win?
For many leftists, the ones the article is talking about, Iraq is beside the point. They loath the terrorists and their actions, but they don't want to see Bush win one either, and that's pretty much as far as they take it intellectually.
This distills down to the odd view that they don't want the insurgency to win, but they want "Bush's War" to be lost. The rank inconsistency doesn't bother them a bit--they would be honestly aghast that anyone could think they supported the enemy.
Face it, there are a lot of people out there who would gladly see Iraq go up in flames if it meant Bush's political career went up with it.
Obviously, not all liberals feel this way. Not even most of them. Some liberals on this board are even pro-war. But for a couple of people here, the motivations are blatantly obvious. Every success in Iraq is denigrated, or dismissed as inconsequential. Failures are trumpeted, and reposted endlessly. What do you need to discern real attitutes and motivations? A tattoo on the forehead?
