The DOD has been paying columnists, writers, psychologists and PR folks for years. Heck, the military has been advertising for nearly a century.
For every firm receiving a check from the DOD, there are countless others paid good money to promote anti-war, anti-government agendas. Just look at a publication like Rolling Stone which has for decades made money on the anti-establishment position to sell cra-py music to kids and get lucrative advertising sales thanks to this anti-establishment practice. They want kids to scream, yell, protest...and buy records (now cds or mp3 downloads) , watch television and commercials, attend concerts. So they pay for the hack, no -talent cartoonists and journalists to write up their anti-establishment drivel.
You'd think by now youd see through the exploitation and realize that as many kids get killed in the military...MILLIONS more have their lives ruined by teen pregnancy, drugs, venereal diseases, leaving school and all the other side-effects of being young, stupid and indoctrinated by whatever a few hack writers and companies try to establish as "popular culture."
The DOD just does enough PR investment to keep recruitment levels as are needed for the national defense. Yes, some of those kids will die, some will be traumatized from combat, some will go on to lead perfectly normal lives. Yet when seen next to the damage inflicted by "popular culture" the DOD appears to be a bunch of pacifists.

Not only has the train left the station - it's already at its destination.
