Much less so than SETI, certainly.
I look at the detection of gravity waves in the same way I do at successful experimental verifications of other predictions of modern physics. Most of those have occurred in high-energy labs like CERN, SLAC, and FermiLab; people like us couldn't even dream of assisting.
By comparison, SETI is not really an experiment to verify anything except an article of faith. As it happens, it's a faith I embrace, but I also know the difference between the Drake "equation" and real math.
It also happens that I've been reading "The Tibetan Book of the Dead" this week, where the word esoteric appears quite a lot. Perhaps my private, non-mathematical study of modern physics makes me enough of an initiate . . .
In the event, I certainly understand your excitement about being able to extend acoustic analysis to the fabric of the cosmos. It makes an elegant kind of sense to me: if string theory is also correct, then everything vibrates, and the Universe sings.
Space/Science » in reply to may be esoteric, but people will be interested if they are actually discovered
Esoteric? Not to me
