...what if they're right? Dust-covered, frozen seas aren't exactly a common terrestrial phenomenon either. Sounds pretty Marsy to me. I hear what you're saying - it does sound like a flying leap in the dark based on Earthly experience. There's some lava ponds on Io too, that look awfully similar to the features they're discussing.
