1. The food industry fought tooth and nail against posting ingredients and nutritional information on packages. Hell, it didn't cost them anything to comply, but it was the PRINCIPLE of informing the consumers that they objected to.
2. The car industry fought tooth and nail against seat belts, mileage standards, and emission controls. I remember one day when GM announced that a certain set of proposed pollution standards were "impossible to meet" and, on the SAME DAY, a Japanese car maker announced it they had met the standards.
3. The Health Insurance providers, in some cases, spends 40% of their budget for ADVERTISING. Like that does patients any good. And the CEO gets 5% to 10%. Talk about underregulation!
4. In the recent case of WorldCom, the CEO had borrowed $400,000,000 (personally) on his own company stock and forged the books in order to keep the stock value up. NOIBODY needs to borrow $400,000,000 for personal expenses. NOBODY. This is just undiluted and unmitigated greed gone wild.
5. The former president of Walt Disney is being sued by stockholders for spending $2,000,000 to revamp his office. NOBODY needs to spend $2,000,000 to fix up an office. Not a whole building, just his own office.
And these are just the ones you hear about. The rest are hidden, but just as real.
Why I think that big businessmen (and women) are bastards.
