I lived in Germany for three years. The air pollution in Germany could be very unpleasant due to the brown coal they burned for electrical power. They've got lots of brown coal and had a little dab of petroleum near Hanover. The air pollution in East Germany due to brown coal was so bad you could taste it (no exageration). Going nuclear is a no-brainer for the Germans. However the Green Party has effectively shutdown the German nuclear industry (the Germans discovered nuclear fission along with quantum theory). Unless the German's snap out of it, I'd say they're in an economic death spiral.
