Space/Science

I've just got an e-mail from Dr. Michael O'Hearn.

Dr. Michael O'Hearn is the Principal Science Investigator
for the Deep Impact spacecraft, scheduled to flyby and release a probe to smack Comet Tempel 1 on July,4th.

Guess what?

The gist of what his e-mail said is...

...If all goes well on July, 4th, and the main spaceprobe survives the comet flyby, then [if funding permits] the Deep Impact bus will be redirected
to flyby another comet [or two]...and his e-mail hinted that a flyby of an NEO asteroid was not out of the question, either.

My commentary:
The Deep Impact bus would need a gravitational assist from the planet Earth [Earth flyby possible on January, 2007] to visit another comet, or two, etc.

So there you have it, space fans. Some more good news.
cheers.

Jacob
