re: Motes and beams: Trading reports on human rights

It's actually a good point, but the question is what actually is this beam in America eye?
If you under the fucking crazy idea that it's something along the lines, the "witchhunt" of someone like Ward Churchill. Then I suggest that you have a goddamn semi-truck in your eye.

But one look at US prisons should tell you we have some serious problems to deal with. How we deal with this problem is the problem.

Another aspect of this thing with China are those Americans talking to the Chinese. First of all, these people need to realize that China is actually making some serious progress. Second they got to change the dialogue from critizing the Chinese to helping the Chinese.

In terms of confrontal issues, we have the Taiwan problem. The Chinese need to *grow up* and resolve this problem [and get the US out of their face on this matter]. The Chinese should cut a deal which is very generous towards Tiawan- give them everything they could possibly want [other than independent national status]. But at same time for purposes of face, the Chinese could have high demands in regards to govt corruption, transparency, human rights, etc on the part of Taiwan.
There is no reason that with confidence measures, that Taiwan could be made as safe from the possiblity of China miltarily attacking it, as Oregon feels about the chances of California miltarily attacking it.

And this stupid idea that China needs to go slow in comparsion to their national security threat regarding Taiwan is a no brainer. Peaceful resolving Taiwan is their highest priority. And btw, N Korea is around the same level of priority, but with Taiwan, China is dealing with relatively sane player, therefore it has much higher chance of successful resolving. And a successful resolution with Tiawan will boost China's economy, oppose to dealing with that wacko, which if successfully resolved could be a short term drag on China's economy.
