Fab Labs a new manufacturing paradigm?

I found this article on fab labs in the Speculist quite provocative. As someone who has observed the minicomputer industry rise and fall, the advent of the PC and the internet I think that 2 non-biological technologies will shape the early 21st century. Robotics and this fab lab paradigm. Probably will take until the next decade for each to really get rolling. What do forward thinking folks here think?

I'm making good money investing taking into account the aging of wealthy baby boomers. Moderately aggresive investors might wish to look at medical equipment and medical delivery industry funds, say from Fidelity, et. al. I'd avoid investing in drug company funds - too risky, too litigious and too politically targeted. Next, I need to find a way to cash in on the above trends.
