TAMPA - A representative from MacDill Air Force Base confirmed that two U.S. Navy F-18s from Pensacola flew faster than the speed of sound and later landed at MacDill.
A sonic boom shook the Bay Area shortly before 8 p.m. The event registered on U.S. Geological Survey seismographs as a magnitude 2.7 earthquake 2 miles south of Tampa. The vibration in the ground was not as severe as an earthquake.
