40 years of spacewalks

Coming up on the 40 year anniversary of spacewalks. The Russians were the first to do so on March 18, 1965.

Have we advanced our technology of EVA's inline with other human related space technology advancements?

Maybe so, considering EVA's are only performed in LEO now and no one has set foot on a distant world in 33 years which otherwise might have induced technology advancements of spacesuits for exploration and construction demands.

NASA is still using a space shuttle designed in the late 60's and the Russian's are still using there every reliable Soyuz rockets first launched 25 years ago.

So, maybe it's all relative as our progress has stagnated for human exploration beyond LEO activities.

But then again, with the recent talk of servicing Hubble and a rescue mission if needed, it was considered there would a need for a dangerous spacewalk between two orbiters.

As a youth, I imagined humans would be gracefully maneuvering at will in there spacesuits by this time, but I also imagined us on Mars by now.
