It has been a legend, an ancient song, a dim folk memory, but it has always been ours, going with us from world to world across the galaxy. For we are the sons of Terra - inner system, outer system, barbarian and civilized- we are all the sons of Terra! (from The Last Planet/Star Rangers).
Not going to win any literary awards, but I pretty well learned to read on such prose (maybe ACE pocket books given to me by an older brother). Sometimes wonder what impact the scope and majesty of these books made to a kid, and what still remains. I'm sorry, but Henry Potter seems positively pedestrian in comparison.
On another note, she originally wrote under the name Andrew North. One guess why. When she wrote "we are all the sons of Terra", however, she did not mean to exclude half the human race. At 93 she saw a lot of changes.
