Current Events » in reply to BTW, anybody else feel that the Feds shouldn't have one damn thing to say about steroid use in baseball?

Oh, they can *say* as much as they want.

Trying to turn off the speechifying machine in DC is like trying to make Niagra fall up.

What they don't have any business doing is summoning people to testify.

Of course, if drug use were not a criminal matter but a health issue, we might get a lot more traction not only on steroids use but other drug problems as well.

If the Feds want to say something about steroid use, let them fund some serious, broad-based health studies on steroids, both statistical and in clinical trials. They can then make sure the results are widely known and understood by the public, and especially by physical education teachers, coaches and players (and their parents) at all levels. Public health education is within the Federal government's purview, but I would think they have more important things to do than to police major league baseball.

Holding hearings with big stars present generates a lot of heat -- and even more smoke -- but not much light.
