What the... Cannibal Rock on Mars

Now this is just weird. Thanks to a poster over at Space.com's message board...

Look next to the pyramid: it appears that one rock is busy consuming another. If you look carefully, it appears almost like something out of that great old (and very trashy) sci-fi picture, The Blob.

What could be happening here? Is it possible for there to be some kind of fluid deposit in the soil? Or let's say some kind of ice that is partially melting, refreezing, melting, subliming, etc, and that this process causes the materials here to move around, eventually to partially cover the rock, and appear to be consuming it? You can see on the left edge of the "blob" it appears to have separated itself from the surrounding soil. Would this formation disintegrate if it were RATTED? Would ice appear? Would the whole thing just explode on the spot?

Or maybe it's all just perfectly ordinary.

Cheers,
