I'm no expert, but I expect enough observation of dust devil tracks and other phenomena has been done from orbit that the basic mechanisms of how they work is nailed down pretty good. At least one live dust devil has been imaged from orbit.

There's no real reason an evaporation phenomenon would "travel" from one place to another along a track.
