A few more details...

I did like the "factory floor" scenes.

Marvin was good. Vogons were good.

I got the impression that, unlike the original BBC TV series, this movie really "talked down" to its audience. Best example: the original "Marvin" robot shows up in the background in one scene. Cool!

But then they show it again. And again. And finally, in a loving closeup. Yeah. I got it already. You don't shove an Easter Egg up the audience's nose.

And yes, yes, yes, I got that Zaphod was Bush, and that he beat the Smartest Man in the Universe in an election.

The new Earth under construction is oddly disturbing. The workers give the impression of Oompa-Loompas that HAD to be deliberate. Some flashes of King's "Langoliers," too, a universe that is just being finished up when you get to it.

I would have given a lot to see the little people from "Time Bandits" working on some bushes in the background, or something.
