A charming comic strip from this sunday's paper!
I just got done with a four day laser run on the summit of Mauna Kea, I came down today and stopped at a nearby diner to get breakfast/lunch. I picked up the sunday paper to see what I had missed in the way of news and read it as I ate... I came to the comics section (I only read the comics for 'Dilbert') but today there was another charming cartoon that caught my eye...
It was a comic strip that has never elicited even a mild chuckle from me, but this was a classic I felt I should share with you all!
I will just quote it since I can't find a copy online...
B.C. BY Johnny Hart:
Starts with a caveman with a wooden leg sitting under a tree writing on a stone tablet
Caveman writes:
"there once was a preacher named Charlie D.
whose degree was in christianity.
But he chose to take up botany.
So he sailed aboard the H.M.S. B.
at this panel the caveman says "Beagle, that is." apparently Johnny can't count on his fans getting the 'obscure' reference...
A fox of a man, on a dog of a ship,
allowed his christianity to slip
and concocted a 'theory' while at sea,
designed to make monkeys of you and me."
(caveman has 'thought' bubble saying "and he did.")
Isn't that just ADORABLE?!
It is so wonderful to come down from working on a telescope that takes images of galaxies forming billions of years before our first single celled ancestors came into being to be confronted by asinine prose from a talentless hack attacking scientific fact far more ineptly than his ignorant predecessors in the 1800's...
Yup, we've come a long way- havent we...?
(I remember some here finding Johnnys comparison of islam and an outhouse witty)
